Installing a licence does not remove that record and nothing else clears it, so from the moment a customer converted, the notice went on telling them at the top of every screen that their evaluation had ended and that a licence would turn everything back on -- on a machine that had one. It fired for every customer who converted, at the moment they started paying, and no restart or upgrade would have cleared it. The notice now asks whether the machine holds a licence before it draws, and any licence silences it, because an expired or unreadable licence is still not an evaluation. It asks by looking for the file rather than by validating it, so that a notice drawn on every request, every poll and every refresh still writes nothing to disk.
